When investing in home renovation projects, it’s important to be able to see how a particular type of flooring or window furnishing will look in your home. Sure, you can go into one of our showrooms to give you a rough idea of colours and styles that you like, but it’s not until you see these products in your home, that the whole picture starts to form.
The type of furniture you have is a strong indicator of the type of flooring you will ultimately choose. Most home renovators don’t update their furniture at the same time as their flooring. So, it’s important to see a sample of your new flooring next to your existing furniture. Does the furniture contrast with the flooring or does it get lost in it? If updating kitchen flooring, don’t forget to check it next to the fridge and cupboards. If adding blinds or shutters, does this match your existing style or does it make the room look too busy?
In one of our showrooms, the lighting definitely will be different to what is in your home. Some of our Solomons showrooms have very bright LED lighting. Other areas of the store, especially near the entrance, have brilliant natural lighting. What looks great in our store, may look very different in your home, depending on the type of lighting you have.
In different room of your home, you may have different lighting options. For example, the living room and kitchen areas of your home may be well lit, where as media rooms and bedrooms may have globes which provide less brightness. So, make sure you take the flooring samples into each room and see how they look in that room’s light.
Now that we have discussed the effect that your furniture and lighting can have when compared with the type of flooring, it’s equally important that the flooring is suited to the paint colour used in your home.
If you have a small room and want it to look bigger than it is, you probably have white or cream walls and you will need a light-coloured flooring option too, but you don’t want it to be a total match between the floor and walls. Choose a shade or two darker for the flooring to contrast slightly with the walls.
In larger rooms, a more drastic contrast works very well to really show off your new flooring. If you have darker walls, then a beige carpet or white oak laminate or luxury vinyl plank may be your best bet. For light paint jobs, then consider a charcoal carpet like our all new Europa multi level loop pile or our COREtec Naturals Bark Hybrid Flooring.
What cannot be underestimated is the positive effect having one of our Solomons style consultations run through all of your options in your home, and see how the samples look compared to your home décor. Our consultations are obligation free and can be done in as quickly as 15 minutes up to an hour, depending on your requirements. We will never rush you through this important decision.
Each Solomons Flooring store is independently owned and operated by hard working franchisees. They are fully trained and know their stuff when it comes to the products that they sell, so you can rest assured that you will be receiving the very best advice.
As the world struggles through this terrible pandemic, our strict COVID-19 safety protocols will keep us all safe. If you’re anxious about coming to us, or having someone in your home, our contact free consultation is available as well. We’ll simply schedule a video call and will drop samples at your front door to complete the consultation. It’s your choice.
