An engineered timber floor has the benefits of giving you the appearance and beauty of a solid wood floor but with far greater strength. The key to this strength and stability is in the construction.
An engineered timber floor is made from 3 layers of timber materials. Each individual layer is laid so that the grain direction is glued at alternating directions. This reduces the timber's natural tendancy to warp and the overall strength is greatly increased. In addition, expansion and contraction are significantly reduced compared to solid timber floors.
In comparison to carpet which on average lasts 7 to 10 years, an engineered timber floor can last a lifetime if cared for with some simple TLC.

Like any floor covering, a timber floor will show signs of wear over time. By observing a few precautions and setting up a regular cleaning and maintenace program, you can expect years of beauty from your floor.
Sweep and vaccum regularly as built up grit can damage the timber surface.
Remove spills promptly using a soft cloth.
Never wet mop, damp mop or flood the timber floor with liquid.
Always use an approved timber floor cleaner.
Keep pet's nails trimmed and paws clean.
Place protective pads beneath furniture legs to reduce scratches and dents.
Use protective sheets when moving heavy furniture or appliances.
Remove shoes with spiked or damaged heels before walking on the floor.
Exposure to the sun and it's UV rays accelerates the oxidation and ageing of the timber- rearrange rugs and furniture periodically to age floor evenly.

Does your home hold moisture and seem damp?
How well ventilated is your home?
Installation techniques and the use of correct fasteners
How much sunlight does the room get each day?
Are you installing into a wet area such as the kitchen?
Condensation (i.e. air conditioners and dryers)
Drying, shrinkage and moisture expansion are the most significant issues that impact on floor laying and floor laying environments. They have to be carefully managed in order to successfully lay a floor Floors can only be laid when the roof is on and all wet trades have been completed. Floors need to be properly acclimatised and stacked in the same room where it will be laid before laying if at all possible .Heaters and air conditioners both tend to dry the air
Northerly or westerly sunlight directly onto a floor can cause drying out of timber and shrinkage leading to gaps in the floorboards. Direct sunlight can also cause some coatings to darken excessively or to colour yellow and needs to be filtered by shades where possible
The thickness of a new timber floor: affects transitions between carpeted and tile areas. Ideally the difference in height should be minimal. will require your skirting boards to be raised and refitted; impacts on the height of your doors and door jams.
Consider the stability of the existing floor as we recommend only keep an existing floor if it does not squeak and creak and is even throughout. Have you checked for moisture content (it should not have rotting areas or any evident pest infestations)?
